Van Gaal is under intense pressure after a nightmare week which saw his side crash out of the Champions League and lose to Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Dutchman has been heavily criticized this season for the side’s style of play but relatively good results had kept a mutiny at bay. However, there’s no doubt that the tide has turned on Van Gaal in the last seven days and angry United fans took to Twitter to demand that Pep Guardiola replaces the Dutchman at the Old Trafford helm.
And it seems punters are convinced Van Gaal is heading for the exit after a flood of money saw the odds on the 64-year-old to be sacked slashed from 14s into just 11/10.
Van Gaal has spent over £250m since arriving at Old Trafford but fans haven’t seen much of upturn since the dreaded days of David Moyes.
Jose Mourinho is out to 5/2 second favorite in the sack race while Steve McClaren has drifted to 7/1 after Newcastle secured their second win on the bounce.
Paddy Power said: “This level of doom and gloom hasn’t been seen at Old Trafford since the David Moyes era and punters clearly think the end is nigh for the United boss.”
With the of lack of structure and the much hyped Van Gaal philosophy, its only about time probably two more games and the Philosopher is thrown out of Old Trafford. No one could accuse Van Gaal of being predictable or lacking the necessary bombast but history suggests that style can get a manager sacked at Manchester United.
