Pan Africa Strathmore Leos vs Mean Machine
Match day one started off with Pan Africa Strathmore Leos producing a dominant display at the Impala grounds to begin their Kenya Cup campaign in style with a 56-0 win over Mean Machine. Nine unanswered tries, Cyprian Kuto getting a brace with Ginton Adongo, John Okwara, Dan Othieno, Brian Nyikuli, Victor Odera, Churchill Ooko and John Oduk all going over the whitewash. Humphrey Owuor added three conversions with Paddy Owiti contributing a penalty and conversion against a Machine side that never seemed mean to the Leos.
Resolution Impala Saracens vs Kenya Harlequins
Tony Mutai was first on the score board but KevinOchami and EricKerre both went over the chalk for Impala. 13-7 in favor of impala but trailed minutes later when Keegan converted Mutai’s try before drilling home a penalty for a 17-13 lead at Halftime.
Two penalties from Okowa brought the sides level, 22-22. Impala looked more promising at the end but when Quins got one chance, Mawira picked a loose ball and raced to score for a 29-22 lead that Quins held to the final whistle.
Mwamba RFC vs Western Bulls
Mwamba took a fourth minute lead through a penalty by Jeremy Chimwani but Western Bulls replied three minutes later with a drop goal from Silas Kuya. Just after Bulls tasted the lead with a penalty, Anthony Karanja scored the first try of the match on the stroke of halftime from a maul to give Mwamba the lead.
The introduction of Humphrey Kayange for Shaban Ahmed in the 46th minute gave them more confidence, Mwamba looked in control outplaying the Bulls in set pieces.
Dan Sikuta scored the winning try for Mwamba after powering past the Bulls backline. Mwamba nearly conceded a try two minutes later from a charge-down but Kivasya came to the rescue with a sliding kick to clear the danger as Bulls went for the kill.
Mwamba donated gate collections from the match to the medical fund of Mwangi Kabeberi’s mother who is ailing.
Though the final score does not show but Mwamba RFC enjoyedalmost every minute of this game keeping possession, physically ready in defense and outplayed Western Bulls on set pieces.
Nondescript RFC beat Homeboyz RFC 20-12 and On a Kenya Cup orientation match at USIU Defending champions KCB RFC kicked off with a 62-0 win over Thika RFC while Kabras Sugar and Top Fry Nakuru won big, Kabras beating Bungoma’s Kenya Sharks 87-3 with Nakuru registering an 86-0 result over Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.
